Unless you have a concern about a specific and unnatural contaminant in your water (for example, leakage of sheep dip) then the following standard tests will indicate whether your water meets current purity standards.

In the case of the chemical analysis a mortgage lender will normally insist upon seeing the full analysis. You may, however, specify a reduced range of tests for individual parameters such as nitrates or lead etc.

Drinking water analysis With Chave & Jackson you can send a water sample for chemical analysis, bacteriological analysis, nitrate estimation, lead estimation, copper estimation and hardness estimation.

Standard Chemical Analysis
of Drinking Water

This chemical report compares the level of detected contaminant with the current advisory or mandatory limit - it is not an exhaustive list; only full EEC Directive 80/778 Analysis Suite plus a hydrogeological survey will fully characterise a water quality. The list below covers the general indicators of water quality and normally found problem parameters

Analysis of drinking water for :- pH, Conductivity, Colour, Turbidity, Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium, Total Hardness, Alkalinity, Iron, Lead, Copper, Ammoniacal Nitrogen, Nitrate/Nitrite, Flouride, Chloride, Manganese, Aluminium, Zinc.

Instructions:

1. The sample should preferably be taken from the last point in the system, which is usually the kitchen tap. Alternatively it can be taken directly from the source or a holding tank if this is more appropriate.

2. Select clean containers strong enough to survive post, carrier and handling. Rinse out once with sample water and then fill. We require 2.5L of the sample; multiple bottles are quite acceptable.

3. Label the containers with your name and address and the type of analysis required.
